ADVENTURES IN ART
Power Dance
Power Dance

8 1/3" x 5"
Permanent marker

I've attended many meetings and while I listen to the endless discussions, I draw. This was a busy one and in it there are all the emotions and little dances of power that went on. These drawings actually act as notes since, for about a year after, I can remember conversations and topics just by looking at the drawings .... I've done some great ones.

Woman's power in Man Woman's power in Man

9 1/2" x 13 3/4"
Acrylic

Medicine wheels are all about balance. A wheel cannot turn properly if it's imbalanced. Life cannot happen without the male and female energy, and argue as we might about who is more important, more hard done by or most blessed by the Creator, we are all equal. The world could turn alot better if we all just got along ... whiners, male and female, make me crazy!

Four Horses
Four Horses
12" x 9"
Mixed medium
This is a depiction of The Apocalypse. The moon shifts in the sky, in the war to end all wars, mankind falls. An angry and vengeful Mother Nature steps in. The butterfly of transformation takes over and new race is born. And through it all the four horsemen ride, Death in the saddle.

The Power of Transformation
Lining up the Odds
21" x 10 1/2"
Pen and ink
Just for fun I started drawing odd figures. They turned out pretty good so I played around with white lines and by not lining them up, it pulled the whole thing together. I love a challange.

Sacred Places
Mothertree
12 1/8" x 13"
Gouache
I painted this when I was in the height of my fertility. There is supposed to be a Tree of Wisdom, but there must be a Mothertree too. A tree that holds all of the fecundity in the world. This would be the most beautiful thing on the Earth. I love being a mom!

I reworked the stereotype of the mermaid. She's playful, strong, bold and resourceful ... kind of like a cat-in-the-sea. In this picture I'm not sure if she's just playing with her little fish friend, or playing with her dinner.

Cassandra Singing
Cassandra Singing
13" x 17 1/2"
Mixed medium
I like the story of Cassandra, the doomed prophetess. In this painting, Apollo admires his handy work as she spouts forth all of the warnings to mankind. I gave him a golden mask because if we were to look upon the face of a god, we are supposed to burst into flames. Great story, but kind of hard to paint his portrait.

Haunted by Eve
Haunted by Eve
14 1/4" diameter
Gouache and watercolour

What was it that women discovered that brought misery into the world? There are so many ledgends of which Pandora and Eve are the most well known. Something must have happened as various cultures tell the same story without knowing each other. In all of the tales, the woman/girl was innocent and curious, not evil traits, and yet the stories are tragic. I created this mandala as I contemplated this unanswered question.

The Great Mother Mother
The Great Mother Mother
7 1/2" x 17" 3/4"
Gouache and watercolour
I was pregnant with our third child when I had this vision of a East Indian Goddess. She had more arms than I painted but I felt it was urgent to get her done. This was three weeks before my due date and I was to soon learn that the doctor wanted me to have a ceasarean (sp?) section. I was angry as I had no trouble with the other births and I focused on this Goddess and was able to get a doctor who allowed me to have another natural birth. A fine baby boy was born in three hours and I felt fantastic. I later found that this Goddess was Kali, and though she's a nasty one, she also is a defender of the poor and downtrodden. I must say, her energy gave me strengths I didn't know I had.

I was trying here to get as many faces in the picture as possible and in order to do so I ended up having to distort them, which made them kind of devilish.
